PS2 Web Recomp: Games, Browser Setup and Save Files
PS2 Web Recomp supports browser builds from your own game files. See the reported GT4 and God of War II progress, setup requirements and save options.

PS2 Web Recomp is a project for building browser versions of PlayStation 2 games from files you provide. It is not a website full of ready-to-play PS2 games. If you want a quick session without setting up a build, browse games that play here, including Alien Escape Pinball and 8Compute.
We reviewed the maintainer's repository on October 17, 2026. We have not built or played its commercial-game examples. This page helps you decide whether the project fits your device and the time you have available.
Which PS2 games does the project report running?
The maintainer describes Gran Turismo 4 and God of War II reaching gameplay in Chrome. Those are examples, not a compatibility promise for every PS2 title. Their performance figures are developer reports, not ABG benchmarks. The repository does not supply the games.
That leaves a practical question before you begin: are you investigating one of the documented examples, or trying a game nobody has reported? In the second case, budget time for debugging rather than expecting a single setup step to finish the job. A successful title screen alone would not settle whether races, combat, sound and saving all work.
What you need before starting
The documented build path uses a computer with development tools and your own disc image. It creates WebAssembly output and uses WebGPU for graphics. Browser saves use a virtual memory card; the project documents exporting and importing cards in the .ps2 format. See the current README for exact dependencies and commands.
Before doing any setup, make a small checklist of your own:
- Which game edition and region are you using?
- Which computer and browser will run the resulting page?
- Do you have enough space for the input files and build output?
- Where will you keep an exported save backup?
- Are you prepared to diagnose a build that fails before gameplay?
Keep that information with any error report. “PS2 doesn't work in Chrome” is much harder for a maintainer to investigate than a named game, version, browser and failing step.
How does a browser run a PS2 game?
Static recompilation translates executable instructions ahead of play. It does not mean AI has recreated every level from a video. The PS2 project's runtime also reproduces hardware behavior; “recompiled” should not be read as “no console behavior needs implementing.”
WebAssembly lets browsers execute compiled modules. It is one part of the system, not a complete game engine or a source of game files. For more browser-game options, see our WASM Arcade guide.
Browser setup: troubleshoot in the right order
Start with the build's own logs. If compilation never completed, changing browser settings will not repair the missing output. If the page loads but rendering fails, inspect its reported graphics capabilities next. WebGPU requires a secure context; a browser's version, graphics driver and execution environment all matter.
Threaded web applications can also depend on cross-origin isolation. Uploading files to an arbitrary static host does not automatically supply the necessary response headers. Use the project's documented serving configuration before trying another host.
Change one variable at a time. Keep the same game input while comparing browsers, and keep the same browser while comparing builds. Otherwise a working second attempt tells you little about what actually fixed it.
Keep saves separate from the experiment
Our recommendation is to export a memory-card backup after a meaningful session, before clearing browser data or moving the build. Note the page address and build you used. Do not treat a persistent-looking browser save as your only copy of hours of progress.
For an initial check, use a fresh test save. Verify that you can create it, reload the page and restore it before committing to a long run. Avoid overwriting the only card you already use with another emulator.
Can ABG embed these PS2 games here?
Not from this repository's generated commercial-game builds. The maintainer asks users to keep those outputs private. ABG does not redistribute or embed them. That does not prevent us from offering creator-hosted independent games: Alien Escape Pinball has an on-page player and a link back to its creator.
Quick answers
Is PS2 Web Recomp a PS2 emulator website? It is a build project with a runtime, not an instant library of hosted games.
Will it run on my phone or Chromebook? ABG has not established that. Check the browser's actual feature support and the project's current notes before assuming desktop results apply.
Where is the project? Start with snuri00/ps2-web-recomp, not an unrelated download advertised under the same phrase.
